or so, suggesting that if they had difficulties 
understanding phenomenon as disparate as O.J. 
Simpson, or the Clinton campaign, or the 
emergence of people such as Ross Perot, or the 
theatrical nature of our foreign policy and the 
invasions of Haiti and Panama and so on—if they 
were to read McLuhan very carefully, they would 
know why these things were so. So he’s been an 
influence on me very recently, within the last nine 
months.
